Love your neighbor…..why do we do this?  Well, for starters, Jesus said we should when he spelled out the Ten Commandants.  Beyond that imperative, it’s simply the human thing to do.  It’s been a rough few days in Charlotte and our city is under the national spotlight.  Beyond our planned lesson for this week, I hope we can join together, bow our heads and pray for a peaceful end to the violence.

Jason will lead us this week in chapters 7 through 9.  I’ve updated our overall schedule below based on last week’s feedback.

Our study of “LEAD for God’s Sake!” continues.  We’re going to revise the weekly plan since there’s a general consensus that we can read through the book a little faster than originally planned.  Jon has done our due-diligence and divided up the remainder of the study into 6 attainable chunks of reading.

To that end, here’s the revised “mission” for FMMF Charlotte along with assigned individuals who will lead that particular week.  We’ll discuss necessary changes this week.

And, speaking of Jon, he’ll lead us in this week’s fellowship.

We’re back at Friday Morning Men’s Fellowship (FMMF) Charlotte this week, and jumping right into our new study, LEAD for God’s Sake.  This week, Mike will guide our group through Chapters 1 and 2 where the two of the main characters, Coach Steve Rocker and wealthy businessman, Grant Steffin, gather over a few beers one evening to commiserate the Coach’s recent losing streak for his basketball team.  The conversations turn from the topic of “leadership”, and the Coach is pretty adamant that his players will have to pay for their misfortunes at the next practice, especially the seniors who the Coach holds responsible for the lack of leadership on the basketball court.

The pivotal scene is where Steffin goes up to a chalk board and draws a stick figure, showing a bag of money in one hand and a hatchet in the other.   Steffin equates the Coach’s struggles to the one that that Steffin feels like he knows best:  running a successful business, where employees are either rewarded with money or face the wrath of getting the “axe”.  Steffin, after-all, tells the Coach that “winning in sports is a lot like winning in business; you have to reward the good players with plenty of meaningful incentives”.

As they sit in Steffin’s million-dollar home, the conversation takes an unexpected turn where the two men complain that their respective spouses don’t appreciate all the rewards the two men have provided.  Whoa….!  That one came from the south end of the bench!

This week we’ll talk about the “hatchet-treasure” picture and share thoughts about how it’s playing out, right or wrong, in our storyline.
