Keeping Score? It’s Us….100…..and Jesus….0!

What???

What’s the game I’m referencing where “WE” could possibly be up on Jesus by 100 points?  Is the Son of God having a bad day?  Is He coming off the injured reserve status?  Or is He giving us a padded “lead” in the game, only setting us up for His triumphant comeback??

Well, it’s none of the above.

I’m not talking about a game at all.  I’m talking about who’s at fault in our relationship between Jesus and ourselves.  Taken from this week’s lesson:

“Most relationships involve scars from wrongs committed by both parties.  The unique thing about our relationship with Jesus is we are 100 percent of the problem.”

100 – 0.

There’s your score.

This week, we’ll tackle Session 7 of our series.  Your homework is Session 7 of the Study Guide, titled “Forgive and Be Forgiven”.  And from the main book, read Chapters 12 and 13.  Our focus is how we forgive those who have wronged us, and reconcile with those who we have wronged.  Easier said than done.

Looking ahead, we’ve chosen our next study series that we’ll begin on Friday, June 16th.  We’ll be reading the book, “The Whole Story of the Bible in 16 Verses” by Chris Bruno.  Order the book today for just over $10.

Download the FREE Study Guide at this LINK.

In the meantime, focus on Session 7 of our current study!

See you on Friday in fellowship!  Gather at 7:30 am.  Mike will lead us beginning at 7:45 am.

Peace!

It’s On Like Donkey Kong!

After a week off, we’re finally settling in to talk about Session 6.

As a reminder, the homework is to read Session 6 of the Study Guide and Chapter 11 of the main book.  If you’ve done the homework already….great!  If not….read it up and come prepared to discuss!  This is an especially good topic to cover this week!

I know some folks are heading out early for the Memorial Day weekend.  For those, be safe!

For everyone else, I’ll see you on Friday.  Gather at 7:30 am.  Ready to dig in at 7:45 am.

Peace!

Schedule Changes Coming Down the Pipe!

We’re juggling a few scheduling conflicts for some of our regular attendees.  As such, I’ve modified the FMMF Charlotte schedule for the next few weeks as shown below:

MAY 19 (THIS WEEK):  No FMMF

MAY 26:  FMMF gathering.  Lesson is Session 6 from the Study Guide.

JUNE 2:  FMMF gathering.  Lesson is Session 7 from the Study Guide.

JUNE 9:  FMMF gathering.  Lesson is Session 8 from Study Guide and wrap-up of the series.  We’ll also preview the next planned study.

JUNE 16:  FMMF gathering.  Begin new series.

Apologies up front for the juggling of the schedule.  Trying to keep as many of us engaged as possible.

Enjoy the rest day this week….but dig into Session 6 if you haven’t done so already.

Peace!

Stocking Up the Pantry Shelves

Session 6 is upon us and this week we’re focused on how we “humbly provide” for our families.  It’s a tough balancing act; something some might call a dilemma:  Do we actively go out and pursue all that we possibly can for our families?  Or do we pray about it, believing that God will be the source of all our needs?

Maybe, too, those two choices are actually one in the same?

This week, your homework is to read Session 6 of the Study Guide and Chapter 11 of the main book.

Mike will lead us this Friday.

See you then!

Let’s Talk About Prayers….

This week’s focus is on Session 5 of our Study Guide and Chapter 10 of the main book.  We’re going to talk about “prayers”….how to do them, what they mean, what blocks good prayers from happening, and what best allows prayers to happen.  All of this in a one-hour gathering this Friday!

Each week, I’ve mentioned the daily devotionals that appear at the end of the Study Guide sessions.  This week, keeping with our theme of prayer, I’d like everyone to read at least two of the devotionals in advance.  Come this Friday prepared to talk about at least one of them!

  • “Get Intentional with Prayer”:  Matthew 6:7-8
  • “Pray with Right Motives”:  James 4:3
  • “Pray in Secret”:  Matthew 6:6
  • “Prayer and Fasting”:  Acts 14:19-23
  • “Abiding in Christ”:  John 15:5-7

Gather at 7:30 am in the front parlor room of The Cornwell Center.  We’ll start at 7:45 am with this week’s lesson.  Mike will lead the group this Friday.

Peace!

Who Doesn’t Love a Superhero??

Great Friday study on tap this week, gentlemen!  If you’re a fan of the Halls of Justice, then this is the fellowship for you this week!

We’re up to Session 4 of our study:  “Fight for What’s Right“.  For homework, follow Session 4 in the Study Guide AND read chapter 9 of the main book.  Get ready to confront evil….pursue justice….and love mercy!

I’m having flashbacks to the days of waking up on Saturday mornings and watching the Super Friends cartoon show.  Anyone else having the same thoughts….or am I really dating myself now??

See you in fellowship this Friday.  Gather at 7:30 am.  I’ll lead our discussion this week starting at 7:45 am.

BAM!  POW!  SLAM!  KA-POW!

Peace!

Be a Super Model….for your kids’ sake!

After a long Spring Break and Easter celebration, we’re back to our study of The Resolution for Men.  This week’s session is number three….and focuses on how fathers are “role” models in all they we do for our children.  Our kids don’t just physically resemble their parents, but they often develop habits similar to their parents or siblings.

This week’s lesson pays special focus on our responsibilities as fathers in how we teach them to honor authority and live responsibly.  Does this happen immediately?  Most certainly NOT…more of a long, steady burn.  But persistence over time will pay off huge dividends in the attitudes of our children….and our lives too!

Read Sesson 3 in the study guide as you prepare for this week’s FMMF.  Then, your reading assignment from the main book is Chapters 7-8….approximately 30 pages!

Jason Schubert will lead the group this week.

Gather at 7:30 am, as always.  Jason will launch into the lesson at 7:45 am.

Peace!

Empty Tomb…..Promises Fulfilled….

But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. As she wept, she knelt to look into the tomb and saw two angels sitting there, dressed in white, one at the head, the other at the foot of where Jesus’ body had been laid. They said to her, “Woman, why do you weep?”

“They took my Master,” she said, “and I don’t know where they put him.” After she said this, she turned away and saw Jesus standing there. But she didn’t recognize him.

Jesus spoke to her, “Woman, why do you weep? Who are you looking for?”

She, thinking that he was the gardener, said, “Mister, if you took him, tell me where you put him so I can care for him.”

Jesus said, “Mary.”

Turning to face him, she said in Hebrew, “Rabboni!” meaning “Teacher!”

Jesus said, “Don’t cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I ascend to my Father and your Father, my God and your God.’

John 20:11-17, The Message (MSG)

FMMF Charlotte returns next Friday, 4/21.  Happy Easter everyone!

Peace!

Being a Man of Your Word…..

One session down….seven to go!

Now, before that sounds too daunting of a task, consider that this series is designed for “men”….and, perhaps just speaking as your’s truly, the reading assignment are bite-size portions!

Our assignment this week is to tackle Session 2 in the Study Guide AND Chapter 6 of the main book.  My recommendation is that you read the Study Guide first as it will help you better understand the book’s reading.  Just my two cents……!

If you don’t have the Study Guide, you can pick one up locally at Lifeway Christian Bookstores.  Closest one is near Carolina Place Mall right next to the Home Depot store.  Call ahead of time to make sure they have the Study Guide in stock.

We’re all bringing our “man cards” this week as we honestly look at the resolutions around marriage, honoring our wives, and being a man of your word.

Heavy stuff….and that’s why you need your man cards!

All good.

How ’bout them Dodgers…..??!!

See you on Friday.  Bring your mug if you want coffee.

Lastly, quick reminder that we won’t be meeting on NEXT Friday, April 14th.  Besides it being public schools spring break in Charlotte, it’s also GOOD FRIDAY as we lean forward in celebration of the Resurrection.

Peace!

Leading the Family

This week, we’re digging into Chapter 5 of our new study, “The Resolution for Men”.  Last week, you’ll recall that our commitment was to “take responsibility and be accountable”.  With that foundational principle in mind, the focus this week shifts to man’s role as leader of the family.  To that end, our commitment this week centers on leadership, protection, service, and teaching.

Please read Chapter 5 if you didn’t get through that last week.  And, complete the information for Session 1 of the (separate) Study Guide.  If you haven’t ordered the Study Guide, you can use the Session 1 worksheet shown in the Resources tab of this webpage.

I’ll see you this Friday at The Cornwell Center!

Peace!
